HAVE YOU SEEN HIM? A suspect in a deadly shooting May 27 remains wanted. UPDATE (7 p.m. May 29, 2024) — In addition to the information we released earlier today regarding the Green Swamp Road/Guignard Drive shooting on Monday, the Sumter Police Department has identified a third suspect. Man in custody, juvenile identified as SUMTER, SC (May 29, 2024) – A 19-year-old man is in custody and charged with murder and attempted murder in connection to fatal shooting of a driver and injury of a passenger Monday at Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive. Curtis Jefferson Jr., 19, of Mayesville, was placed in custody this morning and is being held at the county detention center. Officers also have identified and are working to find a juvenile involved in the shooting and are continuing to gather information to identify and find the other individuals and the vehicle involved. Officers were responding to a shots fired call at about 7:30 a.m. at the Green Swamp Road/South Guignard Drive intersection when they found a crashed vehicle in the area. The driver, Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, 32, of Blanche Road, was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. His 28-year-old passenger, who also suffered a gunshot wound, was taken to the local hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home. Information gathered by police indicates McFadden’s car was stopped at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up alongside and shots were fired before it sped away on South Guignard Drive. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700. A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to additional arrests. Fernando Quintez Adams, 20, of Beckridge Drive, Sumter, is wanted on murder and attempted murder charges in connection to the shooting death of Tavares McFadden and injury of a passenger with McFadden.
Officers are working to find Adams and a juvenile also identified in the case. The other suspect, Curtis Jefferson, 19, of Mayesville, remains in custody.

I just feel that all of this violence is sad. I wonder what has driven these young men to do the things they do. Was it just random, was it retaliation, a dare, was it because of their family life? I just feel sorry for these folks that feel they have to resort to violence. We have to keep praying. I have a teenager and it’s so scary to see the way the world is. I don’t want my child to even leave the house but I can’t stop that. I just keep her covered in prayer.
