Just seeing the NHL TV ratings from game #1...

1. Chicago 28
2. TB 17
3. Buffalo 7.1

The ability to get an unreal haul for the guy has to be there?

I am not shopping him, I am making one call to Tatonka and asking....

BUFFALO BILLS : Hello Buffalo Bills, how may I help you?
STAN BOWMAN : "kane for your 1st pick 2015,16 and 17" "YES OR NO!"
BB: Sir, this is the Answering service, it is 3 AM
SB: OK, Deal is off.....<click>

Now you can say you made the call.....and the best part, "SOURCES" from DB would have it the next day!

Why would the Buffalo Bills want to trade for a hockey player?

Kane is bad and overrated.

Who would give up anything meaningful for him?

Enjoy his 3rd cup. Retool. Do it again in a couple years. Just like the last couple times.
Just enjoy the rest of the season.

You dont even have the other side of the deal......lol....?

They arent trading him before this series is over...so you get a 3rd cup, maybe he has 2 great games, his value is sky high....

Saves on Cap space, keep a number of other players, load up with more talent.

So, there is NOTHING YOU WOULD TRADE HIM FOR?

The Hawks have 0 Cups with Toews and Kane each having $10.5M cap hits.

Look, I love the last 2 Cups and hopefully we'll have another party shortly...but that is some serious $$$ locked up in two players. The cap did not go up as expected.

Biggie, I don't need the other side of the deal. Kane is better than a couple first rounders. No question.
IMU, I won't worry about next year. Let's see what happens to the cap in 17 and 18 before we trade away arguably the best hawk in the last 40 years.

We're not discussing trading Toews.

Seem to recall Kane saying he'd like to play for his hometown team at some point in his career. Possibly in the same interview in which he said he'd not want to play for Detroit. Kane left Buffalo to play juniors hockey at age 9 around Detroit/Ann Arbor, as one of the commenters on this Buffalo newspaper piece on Kane notes:

No way do I trade Kane even for 3 number 1's. I understand the argument but I think they can contend for more cups with Kane/Toews/Teuvo/Keith, etc.

I don't see them trading either Toews or Kane. Scotty's doing what he did in Detroit--lock up a core long-term and then fill out the roster with younger, lower-cost players and higher-value veterans willing to take a reduced salary on a 1 or 2 year deal to have a chance at a Cup, eg, Hasek playing for $750K to get his 2nd Cup with Detroit. Kinda what you see with Richards and Timonen. Tho Richards is younger, and probably looking to parlay this season into one last multi-season deal with another team. Timonen's overpaid/over. Expecting to see some serious Cup hunters signing 1 year/$1 million dollar deals for a run at the Cup with the Blackhawks and Bowman this off-season.

You'd have to ask for Eichel and Girgensons at the very least and add on from there. Buffalo wouldn't do it. They've spent years getting their ducks in a row for a full-scale cost-controlled rebuild; they're not going to torpedo it all just to get Patrick Kane in his late 20s/early 30s. Western New Yorkers support the Sabres damn well without a hometown hero. Kane's not going anywhere.

That being said, Buffalo is an ideal trade partner for other pieces like Bickell or Crawford, but not Kane.

http://capfriendly.com/?p=team-cap&team ... o%20Sabres

They're $9MM below the floor with 15 players signed. Johan Larsson may get a healthy raise, but they can afford to take on salary. Their goaltending situation is dire, and I'm sure they'd rather trade for Corey Crawford than sign Antti Niemi, given the choice.

I would rather roll the dice with keeping Kane and Toews and letting Bowman retool things around them.

Exactly. Besides, Kane has a no-move clause on his current contract and his new contract. I don't expect him to waive it.

And I know this is going to get me a landslide of sh*t from people thinking I'm going too hard on Kane like I do on Toews, but if Eichel is as good as advertised, his full career will be worth more to the Sabres (not the Bills, the Sabres) than the remainder of Kane's will.

geez, talk about full on genius topic.

First of all, Buffalo loves hockey and watches the SCF with or without Kane in it.

Second of all, yea let's trade one of our big 3, a guy who was on his way to leading the league in scoring this year and is once again scoring in the playoffs. Yea, let's trade that guy cause of the cap.

Third of all, Buffalo is in the early stages of a rebuild and has a stockpile of very young talent. By the time they are maturing Kane will be closing in on 30. So, from their end they have just as little interest in tradeing for Kane as we have for getting rid of him.

And to top it off, there is no way they would trade their top draft pick this year straight up for Kane. Jack Eichel is going to be a grade A stud. No chance in hell they trade him for Kane. And on the flipside, the Hawks have no interest in that deal either despite how good Eichel projects...we are in win now mode. No need to trade a boat for a mystery box just because it might contain a similar or slightly better boat.

Such a dumb post on so many levels.

You only pay attention to the Hawks once every 2 years and only for the final series, please just sit back and enjoy it rather than trying so hard to make an ass of yourself.

You don't respond to the Cap crunch by trading away your studs. You trade away the role players and try to replace them with younger versions. Case in point, the Panerin signing.

I see it that way too. Maybe have a couple down years after this one while they retool. Be the Spurs of the NHL.

It would have merited a few seconds of cnsideration, say, back in 2012.

Since then? No. f*cking. Way.
