🌟 Breaking Barriers: The Rental Journey as a New Immigrant 🌟I am a first generation Canadian.My parents immigrated to Canada in the 60s from Greece.I remember hearing the hardships they faced in finding a rental home in their new country.My parents didn’t speak English when they arrived in Canada however with determination and resilience, they found a rental home.Fast forward to today, I am happy to assist new immigrants with finding their rental home.Here are a few tips based on my experience:👉 Understanding my clients needs by asking them how many people are in their family unit, do they have transportation, or do they rely on public transportation? Are there particular schools they are looking at?👉Document preparation: they will need to provide letter of employment (if they already have a job lined up), bank statements (to prove they have the financial capacity to live for a few months), guarantor, Government issued IDs.👉 Communication is key.Language barriers can be challenging, but clear communication is imperative!👉 Rental submissions: prior to submitting any rental documents for my new immigrant clients, I call the listing agent to go over my clients files.Most times, I submit my clients paperwork to the listing agent.This has been a huge success because the landlord will decide if the tenants would be a good fit for the rental property. Tuesday's Thoughts! 🤔 The other day I was going through some old photos.I remember the day I took this photo.Christmas in December 2000.It almost seems like a lifetime ago.My children were 4 years old and 2 years old. 😍 I remember the sleepless nights, laughter-filled days, and the roller coaster ride of parenthood.😐 Yet, watching them grow, evolve, and spreading their wings is truly magical! 🤓 From the moment they were born, I remember their first smiles, their cuddles, crawling, and that euphoria moment of them taking their first steps.In the early years, each accomplishment was monumental, and each heartache was a setback. 😯 I would question myself as a parent with each setback. 🙃 They grow and I did as well.There was a balance between nurturing and guiding, between sheltering and allowing independence to grow.😊 I remember being an educator and referee.Sometimes in one day. 🙄 As they grew older, they found their own voice, their own passions and I had to learn the art of letting go.This was hard and one that does bring tears to my eyes, occasionally.😢 Just like every great book, as one chapter closes, another begins.📚 Transitioning from parent to grandparent is a profound one.I thought I loved my children unconditionally.Then I met my granddaughter and all these wonderful memories of being a parent flourish. ✨ Watching my children being parents is a gift that is truly one of the best gifts I have ever received.More importantly, is them wanting me in their lives with their children. 🤩 The great part about being a grandparent is a chance to rewrite the rules, to spoil them without consequence, and to indulge in the simple pleasures of childhood again. 🙌 It’s about spending quality time with them.Because "nobody spanks Grandma"! Baking cookies, sharing stories, and witnessing the world through the wide-eyed wonder of a grandchild.It is a second chance to savor the moments, to embrace the chaos, and to be reminded about how beautiful life truly is. 🍪 The journey of parenthood to grand parenthood is not about the destination but about the daily moments.It is about the laughter, the heartaches, and the countless memories etched into the fabric of our souls.It is about the legacy we leave behind.The lessons we learn, and the love that binds us across generations.💝 We are truly reminded that the true measure of a life well-lived is not about the things we accumulate but the love we share and how we touch lives along the way. ❤️
