Point One includes a detailed step by step guide in each of their kits. 1. Inspect kit contents for damage and confirm quantities. 2. Thoroughly clean all debris from engine block holes and threads. You can start by spraying brake cleaner to break down any residual oil or contaminants that may be in the bolt holes. Once done, you can dry the holes out with compressor air. Make sure your air compressor has a water separator to prevent introducing moisture to these holes. 3. Ensure all mating deck surfaces and fastener bearing surfaces are flat, free of debris and dry of any cleaning related products. 4. Inspect all deck gaskets for damage, fitment, & suitability. 5. Remove WASHERS from packaging and remove rust preventative coating from all faces of WASHERS, place on clean rag (petroleum-based solvent is recommended). We use a lint free cloth. 6. Remove remaining fasteners and place on clean shop rag, clean threads as required, (do not unnecessarily remove rust preventative). 7. WITHOUT LUBE, washers, gaskets or heads, thread studs into their intended holes BY HAND ONLY until stud bottoms or thread run-out occurs (DO NOT USE TOOLS).Achieving smooth installation without tools is necessary. Remove fasteners and clean or repair threads if needed. 8. Remove fasteners from their holes and apply TORQUEPOINT assembly lube to entire length of block end threads of the fastener using included brush. Work lube into threads all the way around the threaded sections so lube is nearly flush with outer diameter of thread face. 9. Install studs into block by hand or using hex key with light force only. 10. Thoroughly clean any visible fastener lube from mating surfaces and fit gasket and head on block and install washers onto studs. The washers should be dry during installation. DO NOT USE LUBE ON THE WASHERS. 11. Apply TORQUEPOINT assembly lube to entire length of nut end threads of the fastener using included brush. Work lube into threads all the way around the threaded sections so lube is nearly flush with outer diameter of thread face. Lube should be evenly distributed and not excessive. (This step was done at the same time as step 8, hence the photo below from earlier before the studs were installed.) 12. Apply TORQUEPOINT lube to each nut's bearing surface only. Do not use lube on the washers. Install nuts with washers, hand tight. The washer should not rotate during torque procedure. With the proper sized socket (1/2 inch 12 point), we hand thread down the nuts to fully seat the head before moving to our torque procedure. TORQUE RECOMMENDATIONS: Follow applicable OEM and/or aftermarket manufacturers suggested torque sequence & number of tightening steps. Why upgrade?

All engine fasteners are important in their own ways, but one of the most often looked at are your head bolts or studs. As we increase engine power output, and increase cylinder pressure, it’s important to have a fastener that is up for the task and will not fail in operation. An over-powered, over-used, or over torqued fastener can lose its clamping force, allowing oil and/or coolant to leak past the head gasket, or combustion to leak out of the cylinders. Upgrading from the factory head bolt to an aftermarket higher tensile strength stud like the ones we're installing today helps alleviate these problems.

Today we’ll be installing Point One Head Studs into this Honda K24 engine. While this install is specific to a K Series engine, the process in itself is very similar from engine to engine.

Point One includes a detailed step by step guide you can follow when installing your head studs and is one of the reasons we reach for these kits on a daily basis. Let's first take a look at the package contents

Before we begin, ensure you have a clean work environment. To properly install your head studs, you’ll need to first remove your cylinder head and while doing so you should take the opportunity to service surroundings seals and gaskets.

The process of removing your K24 cylinder head involves relieving the tension of your timing chain, removal of your camshafts / rocker assembly, and unbolting your factory head bolts. Once these steps are done, you can move onto your head stud installation. For exact step by step instructions on how to remove your cylinder head, please refer to a factory service manual.
