Trane Condenser wiring
There are 4 model #s.
TAYWAR0004

the fan motor burned out. the replacement motor has 4 wires. I have all the fan wires connected and the fan works fine. my problem is the 3 wires coming from the compressor. bk/bl, and red were simple. The orange wire however went to "H" position on the capacitor. the new capacitor does not have a "H". Do I skip it and go straight to the Cap Switch Relay?

Welcome to the forums.
You need to leave that cap in place for the compressor.
Mount the new fan cap next to it.
There will only be two wires on the old three terminal cap..... Herm and Com. Fan will not be used.

My AC unit seems to have a hard start kit which has a small capacitor and it has a 45uf capacitor for the compressor. Is it because its an ECM?These are the only two in the system. Why dont I have a dedicated fan capacitor, or a dual run capacitor wired up somehow? Read More

Okay deep breath here because it's going to be long post...I've been in my home for 8 years now. Never had a problem with the a/c. I have 2 units - one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The upstairs one is not working. It's a 2.5 ton Goodman unit installed when the house was built in 2012. So it's 12 years old. 410A refrigerant. This past Sunday morning I woke up at like 5 AM because despite the fact I was sleeping, my brain said "why has the a/c been running for so long?". It had been running for hours and was falling behind. I had a local guy (and a high school acquaintance/friend) come out to look at it. He's been in business for 35 years so I trust (trusted?) him. This was Monday. He said it was low on refrigerant and put 4.5 lbs. in it. Charged me $800.I came home from work yesterday (Tuesday) and it was 90 degrees upstairs. The a/c was clearly not working (again). He came by today to see what's up.Clearly the refrigerant he put in it is now gone from whatever leak caused the issue I first called about. He said that since it had never had been serviced in 12 years, it was reasonable to assume that it was a slow leak and the refrigerant level had ultimately dropped below where the system could no longer operate. I didn't question him (yet), but wonder if some other diagnosis should have been performed before pumping 4.5 lbs. into it.He is recommending replacing the compressor/condenser and coil. The rationale being that if he just replaces the coil (where he suspects the leak is), he'd have to replace it again if/when the compressor fails in the near future given its age.I'm down with replacing everything, and the 10-year warranty that goes with it, but wonder if I have a legitimate argument that the $800 I already paid should be considered in that quote.Ideas or opinions?Oh yeah, there's also a ton of air coming out of this drain pipe. It looks broken. Should it be capped like the other one? Read More
